DAB Secretary Dr Zahid freed on bail

Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, secretary general of Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB) was granted bail when he was produced before the court Monday, reports UNB. He was arrested Sunday evening in connection with eight cases against him for construction of Impulse Medical College & Hospital at Nakhalpara in the city that caved in due to faulty retention piling affecting the neighbourhood. Dr Zahid, also an adviser to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, was produced before the court with police seeking seven days' remand. Police submitted that his remand is essential to find out the mysterious earth digging for construction of the proposed hospital and the persons connected in the process. After hearing both the sides, metropolitan magistrate Ismail Hossain granted permanent bail in seven cases and in one case until filing of the investigation report by the police.
