Daily Covid deaths climb to 18 in BD

The death toll from the coronavirus disease, Covid-19, jumped to 18 on Tuesday in Bangladesh from the previous day's seven, official figures revealed.
With the latest count, total fatalities stood at 8,374 since the virus was detected first here last March, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On the other hand, 399 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 afresh in the country in the past 24-hour period until 8:00 am on Tuesday.
A total of 12,748 samples, including antigen-based rapid ones, were tested from 12,698 collected across the country during the reporting time.
However, Tuesday's test positivity rate was reported at 3.13 per cent from Monday's rate of 3.30 per cent.
The number of cases recovered from the deadly disease also increased significantly to 828 over Monday's 692, according to the DGHS.
The rate of recovery, which has been maintaining almost a steady trend in recent days, was reported at 90.58 per cent on the day.
On the other hand, the rate of fatalities from Covid-19 also remained static at 1.54 per cent.
According to the official data, the total Covid-19 cases have so far reached 544,116 in Bangladesh and out of them 492,887 recovered from the respiratory disease.
More than 3.97-million samples have so far been tested in the country since March 08 last year, the DGHS revealed.
