Daily Covid deaths spike, positivity rate declines

The daily Covid death toll in the country on Thursday marked a three-fold rise from that on the previous day.
Bangladesh recorded nine more deaths from the deadly virus in the last 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Thursday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With Thursday's figure, the entire tally of coronavirus-related fatalities has reached 27,970 since the virus was detected in the country in March 2020.
On the other hand, the daily positivity rate further dropped to 1.25 per cent with 237 fresh cases from medical screening of 18,888 people across the country.
Three people succumbed to their infections Wednesday while 312 fresh cases were detected from 21,002 samples tested across the country with the positivity rate staying far below 2 per cent at 1.49% on the day.
With the latest figure, the infection rate has stayed below or around 2 per cent for more than a month as the country last recorded an infection rate of over 3 per cent on October 4 when the infection rate was 3.19 per cent.
According to the latest coronavirus-related data from the DGHS, with the latest infections, the total caseload stood at 1,575185.
Like other days, Dhaka counted highest six deaths followed by one each in Chattogram, Khulna and Rangpur.
During the same period, health authorities also reported that a total of 360 patients recovered from the Covid-19 throughout the country, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,539,553 so far.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), if the daily-case positivity rate remains at 5 per cent or below for 14 days it is considered to be safe for mass unlocking.
The daily case positivity rate in Bangladesh had reached the highest of 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.
