Daily infection rate drops to 2.87pc in BD

After an increase in the Covid-19 infection rate for two days, the daily test positivity rate came down to less than 3.0 per cent on Sunday, the official data showed.
In the last 24 hours ending on Sunday morning, a total of 385 people tested positive from medical screening of 13,566 samples and the infection rate was 2.87 per cent.
The infection rate was 3.13 per cent and 3.30 per cent on February 26 and 27 respectively, according to the news bulletin issued by the state-run Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
At the same time, eight more people died of the viral disease, bringing the death toll to 8,408, it said.
Of the fatalities, six were male and two were female. All of them succumbed to coronavirus while undergoing treatment in hospital, it added.
"With the latest fatalities, the overall death and infection rates stood at 1.54 per cent and 13.51 per cent respectively," the bulletin stated.
In terms of recovery, 817 more people recovered from the respiratory disease caused by the deadly virus. With the latest figures, the total number of recovery rose to 496,924.
