Tuesday, 12 August 2014

A Dhaka court has ordered Sunmoon Group owner Al-haj Mizanur Rahman into prison after he surrendered in an arms case. He turned himself in before the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, Dhaka, on Monday afternoon and sought bail but his plea was rejected. Mizanur Rahman is the editor and publisher of his group’s ‘Dainik Bartoman’. On April 1, police recovered an illegal firearm from Sunmoon Group’s under-construction ‘Mizan Tower’ at Motijheel. The office of Dainik Bartoman, a vernacular daily newspaper, is located on the first floor of the multi-storey building. A case was filed with Motijheel Police Station against 10 people including Mizanur Rahman for possession of illegal arms. Other accused in the case are workers and Sunmoon Group employees, said the court's Additional Public Prosecutor Shah Alam Talukdar, according to BSS.
