Dargah attack in city leaves 15 injured
FE Report | Monday, 17 August 2015
A clash between two rival groups over capturing land of a dargah (shrine) in the city's Shahidnagar area left at least 15 people injured Sunday.
Police and locals said 'Chistia Darbar Sharif' came under an attack by nearly a hundred people who tried to resist an attempt at building a wall by one Babul Azam.
He claimed to have rented the land from its owner, according to the police.
"We came to know about the incident at about 4:00 pm. We rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control," sub-inspector of Lalbagh Police Station Akteruzzaman told the FE.
Abul Azam, the custodian of the dargah, and one Sakil both claimed the dargah land. They had field general diaries (GDs) earlier.
The injured include Kowser, Swapan, Badsha, Tuhin and Shawon.
They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. A case was filed in this connection.
