Darwani textile mills remains closed

NILPHAMARI, Oct 7: Darwani Textile Mills in Nilphamari district remains closed for more than one and a half years. Before the closure, the mill was in operation on service charge contract system or no-work-no-pay basis operated by a trade body of Narayangang named Trade concern. There were 1000 employees of the mill but after the introduction of service charge contract system 40 percent employees were reduced on golden handshake system.
Established in early sixties on 103 acres of land DTM was once a reputed for its quality production. Sources said as a result of the closure the employees of the mill are now passing their days in hardship.
Sources said the mill compound comprises only 10 percent of the total land of the mill while the rest of the land of the mill remains unutilized since its inception.
