Date juice extractors busy processing molasses

NAOGAON, Nov 28: The date juice extractors, locally known as 'gachhis' in Raninagar upazila in the district are busy processing molasses.
Sources said the upazila is well-known for 'gur' (date-molasses). Trading of date-molasses gains momentum every winter in the area.
Trader Rafiqul Islam said one can produce 20 kg to 25 kg of molasses from a single date-tree in a season. As there is no need of extra care for the trees, so it may be a very profitable business.
According to the upazila agriculture office, locally-produced molasses is sent to different districts across the country.
DAE officials said a good number of people have improved their socio-economic condition by making date molasses.
