Daulatdia-Paturia ferry services resume after 4-hr
Sunday, 30 November 2014
Ferry services on Daulatdia-Paturia waterways resumed on Sunday morning after 4 hours' disruption due to dense fog. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC)'s Aricha Ghat manager Mahiuddin Rasel said they kept suspended ferry services and plying of the water vessels from 5:00am due to blurred visibility for thick fog. Five ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers remained stranded at Daulatdia Ghat (ferry terminal) and four ferries at Paturia Ghat while five ferries -- Shah Mukhdum, Barkat, Banalata, Chandra Mallika and Shapla Shaluk-- remained stranded in the mid-river since 5:00am due to poor visibility caused by fog. Passengers suffered a lot as three hundred vehicles remained in wait on both sides of Padma River for crossing. However, movement of ferries resumed around 9:00 am on the important river route as fog disappeared after the sunrise, according to a news agency.
