RAJSHAHI, Apr 29: Stakeholders have stressed the need for adopting GLOBALG.A.P certification to enhance Bangladesh's mango exports, particularly to European markets. The call came at a day-long workshop held in Rajshahi on Wednesday.
Titled "GLOBAL GAP Certification System for Mango Export in Europe," the workshop took place at the conference room of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Rajshahi.
Mohammad Nasir Uddin, deputy director of DAE, Rajshahi, presided over the session, while agriculturist Md Hafizur Rahman, general secretary of the Bangladesh Fruits, Vegetables and Allied Products Exporters Association (BFVAPEA), attended as the chief guest.
Addressing the programme, Rahman said compliance with internationally recognised GLOBALG.A.P standards is crucial for accessing European Union (EU) markets. He noted that ensuring such certification would help improve the quality of Bangladeshi mangoes and create new export opportunities.
The workshop was organised by BFVAPEA with financial support from the Agro Product Business Promotion Council under the Ministry of Commerce. DAE, Rajshahi, provided technical assistance.
Around 50 participants-including exporters, sub-assistant agriculture officers, mango growers and suppliers-took part in the training.
Among the resource persons were Dr Md Mosarraf Hossain, chief scientific officer at the Fruit Research Centre in Binodpur, Rajshahi; Mohammad Nasir Uddin, deputy director of DAE, Rajshahi; Papiya Rahman Mouri, additional deputy director (Horticulture); and Kazi Md Anisur Rahman, deputy director of APBPC.
Participants pledged to follow GLOBALG.A.P standards in producing safe and quality mangoes and to work towards exporting them to European supermarkets.
