Daylong rainfall disrupts city life
FE REPORT | Friday, 6 October 2023
The capital city experienced daylong rainfall on Thursday, disrupting the daily life of residents.
Both office-goers and home-comers suffered immensely as non-stop rain left several city areas waterlogged, making it difficult for people to move around.
Street vendors faced an ordeal as many of them could not open their shops, much to their annoyance.
Many remained stuck on the streets for hours due to an unprecedented traffic jam and had to pay extra fares.
Vehicular movement stayed halted in different parts of the city, including Dhanmondi, Paltan, Arambagh, Motijheel, Shantinagar, Malibagh, Bangshal, Kathalbagan and Rajabazar.
Rainfall for the last 24 hours (until 06:00 pm) was 52 millimetres in Dhaka city, according to the meteorological office.
The highest rainfall of 244 mm was recorded in Rajshahi.
Weathermen predicted light to moderate rain/thundershower, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, at many places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
On the other hand, moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places over the country on Friday.
