Daylong strike against evening course at DU

Friday, 23 May 2014

The daylong strike enforced by "Anti Students of Evening Course," a platform of the left-leaning student organisations demanding cancellation of the master's evening course of the Political Science Department, was going on at Dhaka University Thursday, reports UNB.
The striking students took position in front of the Arts Faculty Building at about 6:00am and staged a demonstration chanting slogans in support of their demands.
However, no classes, but examinations, were held during the strike.
The students alleged that a group of activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of DU unit asked them to call off the strike in front of the Arts Faculty Building in the morning and later assaulted them as the students rejected the direction.
The protesting students submitted a written complaint against BCL activists to DU Proctor Prof Dr Amzad Ali.
The announcement of the strike came from a press briefing at the university's Madhur Canteen on May 18.
