The daylong transport strike, enforced by the Sylhet division unit of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Federation to press home their three-point-demand, is progressing peacefully in four districts of Sylhet division on Tuesday. The demands include immediate arrest of the killers of driver Jahangir and tracing out driver of a missing driver. The strike was also enforced to register protest against dismissal of 23 workers of Lafarge Surma Cement Company in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district of the north-eastern division. Transport workers staged demonstration in different points of Sylhet city, including Kadamtali, in support of their demands. No long distance bus or truck was seen plying the roads of the four districts of Syleht division, connecting capital Dhaka, after the strike started in the morning. Some other small vehicles like microbus and battery-run three-wheeler and easy-bike were plying the roads. The announcement of the strike came form a meeting of the federation at its Babna Point office in Dakkhin Surma on June 30, according to UNB.
