DB seek 10-day remand for Mirpur SI on charge of homicide

Police on Thursday sought a 10-day remand for interrogating Jahidur Rahman, former sub-inspector (SI) of Mipur Police Station, in connection with the custodial death of a man. Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Nibaron Chandra Barman produced SI Jahid and his source Nasim before the court of Metropolitan magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman and sought 10-day remand for each. The hearing on the remand petition is scheduled to start around 2:00pm. Mirpur police arrested SI Jahid Rahman from Shialbari in Rupnagar Police Station of the city on Wednesday. SI Jahid arrested Mahbubur Rahman Sujan, 35, from the city’s Shankar area in the early hours on July 13. After making the arrest, SI Jahid allegedly tortured Sujan brutally in Mirpur Police Station. As Sujan fell sick, he was admitted to a local clinic and then shifted to Suhrawardy Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar where doctors declared him dead on July 13, according to UNB.
