FE REPORT | Sunday, 2 June 2024

A team of detective branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) left Dhaka on Saturday for Kathmandu to investigate the killing of lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar.
DMP additional police commissioner and DB chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid will lead the team.
"Many Bangladeshi terrorists use Kathmandu [as an escape route]. Akteruzzaman Shahin, the mastermind behind Azim murder, also used Kathmandu to flee to elsewhere," said Mr Harun.
"We're also getting similar information about many Bangladeshi criminals," he told the media at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport before departing for the Nepalese capital.
Two detective officials and one from the Police Headquarters are also in the team visiting Nepal.
Top terrors of Bangladesh went to Nepal in the past, Mr Harun said, adding that they were going to Nepal to investigate the murder of Jhenaidah-04 lawmaker Azim.
To this end, the visiting team will seek cooperation from the Nepal police.
The DB chief said they have already sent a letter to the Interpol and the Kathmandu police about the murder accomplice Siam and others.
They will request the Kathmandu police to arrest the criminals in case of their hiding in Nepal.
The team will also talk to the Nepal police about the case.
According to the DB chief, the criminals involved with the murder may be in Nepal or flee to another country as many criminals use Kathmandu as an exit route.
He said the DB team would talk to the Nepal police so that criminals could not hide in Nepal.
