DBBL awards scholarships

Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited, as part of its scholarship programme, awarded scholarships to 200 meritorious and needy students including 10 physically-retarded students who passed HSC examinations in 2006 and studying at tertiary level in the country.
Chaired by DBBL Managing Director (MD) Md Yeasin Ali, the programmes was attended by Finance Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam as the chief guest.
The finance adviser distributed scholarship-awarding letters to the recipients at a function at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city recently.
Mirza Azizul Islam, in his speech, lauded the scholarship programme of the bank and recalled other public-spirited activities of the bank.
He expected optimism that other corporate bodies of the country would come forward with such programmes for the benefit of the society and to reach the ultimate goal of economic development.
The DBBL MD, in his speech, said the bank has already awarded scholarships to 1262 students. The bank will need to incur a cost of Tk 40 million (4.0 crore) per year, he added.
Among the scholarship awardees, a blind student Abdul Quadir Suman of Islamic Studies Department and Evanta Kabir of Chemistry Department also spoke on the occasion. They expressed their gratitude to the bank authority for taking up such initiatives.
DBBL Foundation Coordinator Mozammel Hossain Khan and senior executives of the bank were also present, among others, on the occasion.
