DBBL scholarship: Laudable venture
Tuesday, 9 September 2014
It is heartening to learn that Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) is working towards betterment of the education sector by providing scholarship to poor and meritorious students of the country. One must admit that it is a great initiative.
We may reasonably expect that seeing the bank's noble mission, other institutions will also follow suit. The DBBL scholarship winners should take this wonderful opportunity and build their lives, and also shape the future of the country. DBBL has been awarding the scholarship worth Taka 1.02 billion, and it is a significant contribution to the education sector. Their scholarship programme provides a hope to the students, who are good at study but do not have the means to pursue it. Education is the backbone of the nation. Without quality education, we cannot think of achieving prosperity. Bangladesh will get out of the clutches of poverty and backwardness when 100 per cent of our population will become literate. Educated people are easy to govern but impossible to exploit.
It is also good to know that 90 per cent of the DBBL scholarship winners are from rural areas, and 50 per cent among them are girls. I wholeheartedly congratulate DBBL for its laudable venture and hope the bank will continue with the initiative to inspire other banking institutions to come forward in this area and help boost our education sector.
