DCC starts removing wastes from DU

The Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) started wastes disposal activities with environment-friendly compactor trucks on the Dhaka University (DU) campus Wednesday.
DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the campus cleansing project at a function at TSC auditorium in the afternoon.
DCC Chief Waste Management Officer Bipon Kumar Saha and acting adviser of JICA Technical Assistance Team Akiyo Ishi also attended the function.
DCC is implementing the garbage removal project at DU in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Bipon Kumar Saha said around 15 million people in Dhaka generate at least 4,200 tonnes of waste every day, adding that DCC could dispose of 55 per cent of wastes which costs Tk 1.5 to 1.75 billion per year.
