DCCI, Chinese team see road link vital to boost trade ties

A China-Bangladesh direct road link via Myanmar and India would be very effective for further enhancement of trade relation between the two countries.
It was observed at a discussion between the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and a delegation from the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) held in the city Tuesday. CICIR Vice President Li Shao Xian led the delegation.
DCCI Acting President M Shahjahan Khan presided over the meeting. At the meeting the DCCI leaders highlighted different potential business sectors of Bangladesh.
Shahjahan Khan mphasised initiation of a Bangladesh-Kunming direct road via Myanmar for this purpose. He also stressed on establishing deep-sea port in Chittagong and the Asian highway, which would connect 20 Asian countries.
DCCI immediate past president MA Momen urged the delegation to extend their cooperation in establishing a Chinese Language Institute at DCCI Business Institute. He also highlighted the need of knowledge and technology transfer from China to Bangladesh aiming at socio-economic development of Bangladesh. Besides, he sought Chinese investment in Bangladesh.
Li Shao Xian said that establishing China-Bangladesh direct road transportation via Myanmar and India would be very effective for enhancement of trade relation.
He wanted to know the hindrances to the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and China and sought suggestions on how to remove them. He also mentioned that they would like to re-establish Central Asia-South Asia silk route for establishing better means of communication within the countries.
Among others, DCCI Vice President Alauddin Malik and other directors were present at the meeting.
