Bangladesh is moving forward economically due to her promising business sector, said Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan Wednesday.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest in an award giving ceremony on "ISO 9001:2008 to DCCI" at the DCCI auditorium where the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh was present as the special guest.
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) got "ISO 9001:2008" certificate as the first international-standard chamber in the country for its global-standard activities.
SAI Global, the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), gave the certification to the DCCI.
Iftekhar Mahmud, country representative of SAI Global, gave a presentation in the ceremony which was chaired by DCCI president Abul Kashem.
Faruk Khan urged the DCCI to form a research cell with a view to checking price spiral of essential commodities. For this purpose the government will extend all-out cooperation, he promised.
He, however, said in the past, the business community was not evaluated properly but the present government was committed to giving required support to them as no country could prosper without development of its trade and commerce.
"Time is coming when Bangladesh will make investment in abroad as it has achieved good experience in a few sectors," Khan expressed the hope and said, "The country achieved 37 per cent growth in the first quarter of the current fiscal".
To continue the trend, he urged the opposition not to observe strike without any valid reason.
The minister said: "Strike is a democratic right of a party but it should have logical point".
He urged the business community to convince the opposition to refrain from such anti-people activities.
He gave thanks to the Australian High Commissioner for giving quota-free access of Bangladeshi products to his country.
Australian High Commissioner Justin Lance Lee congratulated DCCI on achieving this certification.
He said Australia has been giving quota-free facility to Bangladesh since 2003.
DCCI president Abul Kasem Khan said this certification is a true reflection of DCCI`s commitment to the quality of its services to stakeholders.
He also said they got the certification after auditing of seven key departments by SAI Global.
The departments are Board Affairs, Public Relation, Members and Research, Project Management, DCCI Business Institute and Knowledge Centre, Accounts, Store and Dispatch, Estate and Maintenance and IT and Support services.
