DCCI holds workshop on purchase, supply chain management

FE Report | Tuesday, 15 July 2008

A two-day 'training of trainers (TOT)' workshop on 'International Purchasing and Supply Chain Management (IPSCM)' was organised by the DCCI Business Institute (DBI).

The objective of the workshop was to increase the number of skilled trainers for expanding training services on IPSCM at the DBI.

To meet the growing demand for skill development of the business community, particularly SMEs, the Chamber established DCCI Business Institute (DBI) in 1999.

The objective of DBI is to upgrade the skill of entrepreneurs and business executives by imparting various modern and need-based training courses so that they can convert the challenges of free economy into opportunities.

Considering the need for competitiveness in the global market, DBI has been conducting the IPSCM courses since 2004. Initially there were short term courses and later medium and long term diploma courses were introduced from 2007.

In Bangladesh, DBI is the only authorised examination body (AEB) of International Trade Centre (ITC)-WTO/UNCTAD Geneva. It has been holding examinations on IPSCM in March and September every year regularly.

In this age of globalisation, the demand for skilled employees for managing supply chain, procurement and logistics department are gradually increasing. To fulfil the emerging need, DBI organised the workshop to build up more skilled, efficient, knowledgeable trainers.

This workshop is aimed at familiarising the participants with methods of training and content of IPSCM modules. The main topics are: Introduction of ITC and objectives of its global MLS-IPSCM Programme; what makes a good trainer and how we learn the training process from target groups; training needs to learning objectives, how to design courses; key-issues to be aware of when using training methods such as presentation, role plays, brainstorming, group exercise etc.
