DCCI pushes for automobile policy

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said Thursday the government would provide all-out support to help the country's automobile sector flourish.  
He gave the assurance when a delegation of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) met him at his ministry. DCCI President Hossain Khaled led the delegation at the meeting.
The industries minister emphasised the importance of uninterrupted gas and power supply for massive industrialisation and urged the government not to impose duty or tax on imported raw materials like finished goods.
He also suggested introducing freight trains in export processing zones (EPZs) and special economic zones (SEZs) to connect it with the mainstream of communication.
Mr. Khaled sought more investment both from local and foreign entrepreneurs. He said they should establish a deep-sea port to become a business hub in this region.
He called upon the government to make policy guidelines and roadmap for automobile industry in Bangladesh. He also stressed the need for recognising the automobile sector as an independent sector like shipbuilding industry.
The DCCI President proposed setting the Air Quality Standard/SPM 500 microgram per square metre in every 8 hours in the industries.
The Industries Minister, however, endorsed the recommendations put forward by DCCI.
Calling upon the private entrepreneurs to invest in this sector, he said the government would take necessary measures to boost production of country's automobile sector. He assured the DCCI delegation that his ministry would provide all-out cooperation in this regard.

Atique-E-Rabbani, FCA, Muktar Hossain Chowdhury and Secretary General AHM Rezaul Kabir were, among others, present.
