The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has initiated a move to help new entrepreneurs get bank loans for launching businesses.
Under the new initiative, the DCCI appointed a consultant to assist the new entrepreneurs for scrutinising their project profiles and sending those to the banks for loans for starting the businesses.
"We have appointed a retired managing director (MD) of a private bank as a consultant for scrutinising project profiles of new entrepreneurs and assist them in getting bank loans to start businesses," President of the DCCI Mohammad Shahjahan Khan told the FE Friday.
Earlier, the DCCI, in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Small and Cottage Industry Training Institute (SCITI), started training for creating 2,000 new entrepreneurs.
Those who received training so far have sent their project profiles to banks after scrutiny by the DCCI consultant.
"We have scrutinised 30 to 40 project profiles of the new entrepreneurs and sent those to the banks for sanctioning of loans," Mr Khan added.
He said, apart from appointing a consultant, a team of the DCCI has been assisting the new entrepreneurs so that they could receive training smoothly.
The DCCI is implementing its project (training for new entrepreneurs) with the financial support of the Bangladesh Bank for grooming the new entrepreneurs in the country.
There will be 70 training programmes for creating new entrepreneurs. So far 14 training programmes were completed.  Each batch has 30 persons for receiving training.
"We are providing high quality training to the participants. So far 420 persons were trained," Small and Cottage Industries Training Institute (SCITI) Principal Md Abdul Wadud, involved in the training programme, told the FE on the day.
The training is mainly focused on how to start a business by the new entrepreneurs. It started on March 03, 2014 and will continue until October next.
The DCCI president said the Chamber will hold a programme in June next to introduce newly trained entrepreneurs to different banks so that they could get loans for starting their businesses..
