Deadline extension fails to woo too many taxpayers

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has not been receiving the expected level of response from the individual taxpayers even after extending the return submission deadline by one month.
The board has received tax returns worth Tk 5.32 billion from 328,241 individuals until November 8 last.
Of the amount, Tk 3.38 billion came from 125,946 taxpayers who submitted general tax returns, Tk 1.21 billion from 109,277 who filed self-assessment returns and Tk 729 million from 93018 individuals opting for universal self-assessment.
Until October 25, the NBR received tax worth Tk 4.58 billion from 226,993 taxpayers.
During the last 20 days, the board received tax worth Tk 740 million, which was much lower than the expectations of the board.
In the last fiscal, the NBR received tax worth Tk 2.52 billion from 535,994 individual TIN holders.
The first deadline for individuals' tax return was set for September 30, that was extended up to October 31 and then again to November 30 for the second time.
