Deadline for clemency applications extended

Tuesday, 18 November 2008

The Truth and Accountability Commission (TAC) Monday extended the deadline for filing clemency applications up to November 20, as it resumed its activities after a brief pause due to a High Court verdict. The deadline for filing clemency applications was supposed to expire on November 16. But, Tac had to stop its activities on that day following a High Court order Thursday declaring it illegal. On Sunday, the Appellate Division stayed the High Court order for one month allowing the Commission to continue its works. "In a meeting, we have decided to extend the deadline up to Thursday (Nov 20)," Tac chairman Justice Habibur Rahman Khan said. — UNB
