Death anniversary of Ghyasuddin Ahmed Chowdhury today

The 37th death anniversary of Ghyasu-ddin Ahmed Chow-dhury, an eminent sports organiser of the country and a renowned civil servant, will be observed today. Born in Golapgong of Sylhet, he died on January 27,1971 in a tragic road accident near Dhaka.
Ghyasuddin distinguished himself as a Civil Servant during the British and Pakistani administration and held many important positions as Secretary to the Government, Commissioner of Dhaka Division, Member, Board of Revenue, Chairman, East Pakistan Election Authority until 1970.
Ghyasuddin Chowdhury's eldest son Faruq Chowdhury is an eminent columnist and former foreign secretary, second son Enam Ahmed Chowdhury is an economist and a politician, third son is former ambassador Masum A. Chowdhury and the fourth son is the present Foreign Adviser Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury. His eldest daughter Naseem Hai was an official in Bangladesh Biman, London and the wife of Shahid Colonel S.A Hai who was killed by Pak Army in Jessore in 1971 and the youngest daughter, Neena Ahmed, a former teacher in Washington is the wife of Chief Adviser Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed.
