Death anniversary of Giasuddin Chy today

Our Correspondent CHITTAGONG, Oct 25: Tomorrow is the 18th death anniversary of Giasuddin Chowdhury, pioneer of fish and shrimp industry in the country and the first president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The day will be observed through daylong programme including milad mahfil, Khatam-e-Quran and jeyafat at his Lalkhan residence and in the village of Dulahazar under Chakaria Upazila of Cox's Bazar. It may be mentioned that Chowdhury was the first Bangladeshi to take projects for shrimp culture and shrimp export 40 years back in independent Bangladesh that is now earning for the country Tk 60 billion in foreign exchange annually from export of shrimp. Chowdhury was also chairman of the country's first ever general insurance company in the private sector in the country.
