Death anniversary of Justice Rahman today

The 14th death anniversary of Late Justice Abdur Rahman Chowdhury will be observed today (Friday).
Justice Chowdhury was the son of late Khan Bahadur Abdul Latif Chowdhury, and was born in 1926 in an illustrious Zamindar family of undivided Bengal.
A meritorious student and a brilliant orator, Justice Chowdhury was the VP of Salimullah Muslim Hall in 1948 and was one of the pioneers of the Language Movement. The historic memorandum containing the demands of the people of the then East Pakistan given to the then Prime Minister of Pakistan was drafted by Late Justice Chowdhury.
He was elected Secretary General of the then East Pakistan Bar Association in 1967 and 1968. He was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 1973 and held the office until 1983.
Justice Chowdhury represented Bangladesh in the United Nations General Assembly in 1977 and played a very crucial role in Bangladesh's election to the Security Council for the first time. He was appointed an Arbitrator in the International Court in Paris in 1993.
