Death of students at Saint Martin\\\'s

Wednesday, 16 April 2014

It is a very tragic incident that two students of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology drowned in the Bay while three were rescued and four were missing during an excursion to St Martin's Island under Cox's Bazar on the first day of new Bangla year. The students went to enjoy Bangla New Year at Saint Martin's Island and suddenly the tragic incident took place.
Today, Cox's Bazar is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in Bangladesh. But it is yet to become a major international tourist destination. Thousands of tourists from home and abroad visit the place every year. It is an unbroken 125 kilometre sandy sea beach with a gentle slope. It is located 150 kilometre south of Chittagong. The safety standard of the sea beach should be increased as such incident of death will discourage tourists to visit the place. Those who visit Cox's Bazar and Saint Martin's Island should consult the lifeguards present there before going into water. Thus we can reduce the incident of drowning and increase safety. There is no word which can bring solace to the near and dear ones of the deceased students. We can only hope we won't see such tragic deaths in future.
