Death toll in Bangladesh flood rises to 9

The overall flood situation has improved further in the country following recession of water in major rivers in the last 24 hours, ending at 6am on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Civil Surgeon office control room said three children drowned in flood waters in different districts in the last 24 hours. With these, the number of death toll stood at nine in the ongoing flood. A total of 85 medical teams are working in flood affected areas. Bangladesh Water Development Board officials said floods have improved in Munshiganj, Bogra, Faridpur, Sirajganj and Kurigram districts. They said the flood situation is expected to improve further in Bogra, Sirajganj, Tangail, Jamalpur, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Faridpur and Manikganj by the next 24 hours. Besides, water level in Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Ganges-Padma and Meghna basin will continue to come down. Relief distribution activities had also been geared up to mitigate sufferings of the flood and erosion victims of Munshiganj, Dhaka, Faridpur, Gaibandha and other districts, according to a news agency.
