Death toll in Kishoreganj boat capsize rises to five

KISHOREGANJ, Jan 19 (UNB): Two more bodies were recovered from the Dhaleshwari river Tuesday, raising the death toll in Monday' s boat capsize to five.
The rescuers recovered bodies of Jibon (6) and Rupali Sarker (10), from the river. Three other people were still missing in the accident, police said.
Police said a mechanised boat carrying around 50 people -- far beyond its capacity-sank due to strong currents while it was anchoring at the river bank at Banglapara under Astagram Upazila.
Three women drowned and five other people went missing in the boat capsize.
The relatives of the missing persons were seen waiting on the banks of the river while some others were looking for their dear ones by boat.
The passengers were mostly Hindu devotees going to a temple to attend a religious function.
