FE Report | Wednesday, 27 February 2019

Two more people who suffered burn injuries in a fire at Chawkbazar in the city on Wednesday night died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), raising the death toll to 69.
The deceased were identified as Sohag, 22, and Anwar Hossain, 55, a rickshaw-puller and son of Ali Hossain of Rajbari.
Sohag succumbed to his injuries at the burn unit of the hospital around 1:45 am on Tuesday while Anwar died around 10:00 pm on Monday, hospital sources said.
The bodies were handed over to the victims' family members, said DMCH police camp in-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia.
Earlier, Criminal Investigation Department officials said 14 unidentified bodies out of total 19 could be handed over to their family members within next 15 days. But it will take more time to hand over the bodies of five other victims, they added.
The authorities concerned handed over 50 bodies to their family members so far and at least 42 persons provided DNA samples for the remaining 19 bodies, assistant analyst of CID Ashraful Alam told the FE.
With the death of two, at least 69 people were killed and 41 others injured in the devastating fire that broke out at a chemical warehouse and raged through several nearby buildings at Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka.
