Deaths by drowning

Tuesday, 4 July 2023

Deaths by drowning are on the increase in Bangladesh. Unfortunately, many of the victims are tourists. Law enforcers have recently recovered the bodies of two teenagers who went missing while visiting a waterfall in the hills of Mirsarai in Chattogram. Both the teenagers along with a few others reportedly went to visit the Rupshi waterfall and later went missing while swimming in the waterfall.
If we want to minimise deaths by drowning, government initiatives are a must. On the other hand, people too need to act more consciously. Everyone is; perhaps, well aware of the fact that May, June and July are the most dangerous months in Bangladesh when drowning incidents are more frequent. Yet, we constantly ignore the issue and pay for it dearly. Instead of only criticising the government, we should also start to take responsibility for our actions.
