Deaths in 'SCA rising in Bangladesh'

Nearly 25 million people are now suffering from heart related diseases across the world and the number is likely to be doubled by 2030.
This was disclosed at an international seminar on heart in the city Friday, reports BSS.
Renowned heart specialists at the conference mentioned that the number of deaths due to irregular heartbeat was increasing day by day and said sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) was responsible for 20 per cent deaths out of total deaths in the world.
At an impromptu press conference after the opening of the seminar, the heart specialists said one person dies every one-minute from SCA in the United States of America (USA).
Replying to a question, Chief Operating Officer of Popular Pharmaceuticals Dr Pinak Bhattacharjee said that the accurate statistics of deaths from SCA in the country could not be ascertained.
But, he said, the number of deaths from SCA in the country is increasing day by day like the USA.
Among others, National Professor Brigadier (retd) Dr Abdul Malik, Director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Dr AKM Mohibullah, Senior Consultant of National Heart Foundation Dr Nazir Ahmed, Executive Director of Escorts Heart and Research Foundation in New Delhi Dr TS Kellar also addressed the press conference.
Earlier, Professor Malik inaugurated the international seminar or 'Reason and Remedy of Heart Disease'.
More than 100 heart specialists from Bangladesh and India took part in the day-long seminar.
Addressing the seminar, Professor Malik said Bangladesh is not lagging behind the developed world in treatment of heart disease as the country has now international standard heart disease treatment facilities.
