Debate competition concludes at JU

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Mar 29: A seven day-long debate contest concluded on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus Sunday night. Titled "Rakter Dame Krito Shadhinota, Juktir Bane Pabe Purnata", Jahangirnagar University Debate Organisation (JUDO) organised the festival marking the Independence Day. Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Nazrul Islam addressed the concluding session of the festival as the chief guest at the Selim Al Deen Muktamanch of JU while JU VC Professor Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir and adviser of the organisation Professor Abul Khayer were present as special guests. Around 100 educational institutions from different parts of the county in the three level of competition including university, college and school, participated in the festival. Ministry of war affairs auspices the total programme which included opening rally, parliamentary debate, and show debate. Daffodil International University (DIU), Dhaka College and Motijheel Ideal School won championship in the university, college and school level competition respectively while Dhaka University (DU), Notre Dame College and St. Joseph's School become runner up. Donation for autistic children Standard Chartered Bank donated Tk 0.1 million for the development of a special needs education centre 'Anandashala' for the autistic children at the Jahangirnagar University (JU) today. Director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Dr Bakhtiar Rana handed over a cheque of 0.1 million to VC Professor Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir while honorary director of 'Anandashala' Dr Mohammad Hanif Ali was present. Principal of the centre Mohammad Abu Sayeed said that "mainstreaming the autistic children of the country the center is playing a pivotal role and people should come forward to help them'. Ph. D conferred on Md. Khaled Hossain Jahangirnagar University syndicate recently conferred Ph.D degree on Md. Khaled Hossain (Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Education) for his thesis titled 'Safe Motherhood in Bangladesh: Health Seeking Behaviour of the Pregnant Women'. Professor M. Kabir, Department of Statistics was his supervisor. Earlier he obtained B.Sc. in Industrial Arts from the University of Dhaka and stood first class first. He also obtained Masters in Demography from the same university and stood first class second. Later on, he obtained Masters in Demography degree from the Australian National University (ANU), Australia with distinction.
