Debdulal Bandyopadhyay dies, PM shocked

All India Radio and Doordarshan newscaster Debdulal Bandyopadhyay passed away at his South Kolkata residence Thursday at the age of 76 after prolonged illness, reports BSS. He left behind one son and a daughter. Debdulal Bandyopadhyay played a historic role during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 by inspiring freedom fighters and freedom loving people of Bangladesh by presenting news through Akash Bani. Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Friday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Debdulal Bandyopadhyay. In a message of condolence, the Prime Minister said, "The history will remember Debdulal who played a key role by his voice inspiring freedom fighters and encouraging them to fight for liberating the country". Sheikh Hasina recalled several meetings of Debdulal Bandyopadhyay with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after 1971. The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
