Decline in Covid infection
Thursday, 24 March 2022
The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country is declining gradually. Daily zero death is also recorded in a couple of days. The government has succeeded in inoculating around 77 per cent of the population by providing at least one dose of vaccine. About 56 per cent of the population are fully immunised as they have received two doses. Around 4 per cent of the population have got booster dose or third dose of vaccine so far. Total death count is also rather low.
Around 30,000 death was recorded in two years since March 18, 2020. All these mark a positive development. These also indicate that Bangladeshi people have earned herd immunity. The herd immunity helps to return to normalcy in all sectors within the country.
To keep herd immunity sustainable some more work is needed. Wearing face masks is still necessary at public places. There should be no compromise with regular hand washing. Proper sanitizing and cleaning of public transport is still ignored. One of the big lessons of the pandemic is that we must not neglect basic hygiene. Another important lesson is about extending social cooperation. Unfortunately, these two lessons are not learnt by all.
