Deep convection in North Bay
Monday, 26 July 2010
Deep convection in the North Bay whipped up squally weather affecting the maritime ports and coastal areas, said the met office, reports UNB.
It has advised the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla to keep hoisted local cautionary signal Number three.
The forecast said due to active monsoon, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at places over Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions until 4.0 pm Monday.
Strong South West monsoon and steep pressure gradient persists over the North Bay. Under its influence deep convection is taking place.
Under the influence of steep pressure gradient and full moon, the low lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Feni, Laxmipur,
Bhola, Barisal, Patuakhali, Borguna, Chandpur, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their off shore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind driven surge of 3-4 feet above normal astronomical tide.
