Foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni said the country is likely to start exploration at the deep sea of the Bay of Bengal for mineral resources.
"The government has started arbitration with the neighbouring countries. The sea delimitation dispute will be resolved within few years," she said, while taking part in discussion on budget fiscal 2010-11 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The foreign ministry has sent a proposal to the finance ministry to increase allowance of officials at different embassies to encourage them to work hard for the country, she said.
Bangladeshi foreign ministry officials working at different embassies are not paid adequately, but they are responsible for developing market and create export opportunities for Bangladeshi products, she said.
"The counterpart officials of other embassies get higher perks and privileges," she added.
"I hope the finance ministry will give its nod to our proposal to increase the allowance of the officials," Dr Moni said.
Awami League lawmaker Mohammad Abdur Rahman has demanded that the government should reduce proposed tax at source for members of the stock market to 0.035 per cent for the development of the market.
"The proposed tax at 0.1 per cent is high and it will have negative impact on the market and the finance minister should reconsider it," he said taking part in discussion on budget.
The government is likely to get Tk 4.28 billion revenue if 0.035 per cent tax at source is imposed, he added.
Mr Rahman said stock market can be a very good source for raising capital for Padma bridge and power and energy sector.
Awami League lawmaker Mohammad Zakir Hossain said the ministers should be careful in implementing budget.
