Defamation case against editors of 3 dailies dismissed

A court in Shariatpur on Tuesday dismissed a Tk 1.0-billion defamation case filed by a local Awami League leader against the editors, publishers and Shariatpur correspondents of three national dailies. Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam trashed the case as the complainant had been absent during hearing for long on the scheduled dates. Naria Awami League organising secretary Hafiz Mallick filed the case against the editors, the publishers and the district correspondents of the Daily Jugantor, the Dainik Jaijaidin and the Dainik Samakal on March 3, 2010. He alleged that the three dailies ran reports on March 25, 2010 involving him which were false, fabricated and motivated, according to a news agency.
