Defeated force may disrupt trial of war crimes: Hasina
Sunday, 28 March 2010
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the people to remain alert and united so the process of the trial of war criminals cannot be disrupted under any circumstances, reports UNB.
"Bangabandhu had started the trial of the war criminals. Insha-Allah, we will complete the unfinished task of Bangabandhu," she said at a discussion marking the Independence and National Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) Saturday afternoon.
"More conspiracies will be in placeā¦All people must remain alert to foil the conspiracies," the Prime Minister said.
Hasina said though the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared general amnesty after the independence, the great leader never pardoned those who killed patriotic people, raped women, looted valuables and set afire their houses.
Referring to a recent trial of a World War-II war criminal aged 90-year who has been given life-term imprisonment Hasina said if it happened why in Bangladesh the war criminals would not be tried?
She apprehended that the anti-liberation force who had been in power for long time would try to halt the trial of the war criminals by using their huge black money earned through corruption and irregularities.
"However, we are not afraid of any plot by the defeated force. In the past also whenever we began the process of any pro-people task, the evil force had created impediments. But, we could foil their plots and had been successful in completing our tasks," Hasina said.
She said after the liberation Bangabandhu had started his endeavour to bring about the economic emancipation of the people, but the defeated force killed him on August 15, 1975.
"After Bangabandhu's assassination, his killers and the war criminals were politically rehabilitated and even made Members of Parliament by their patrons. The nation now wants to erase such stigma," she said.
"Inshallah, we will complete the trial of the war criminals and free the nation from the stigma," Hasina told the discussion.
She said the forces opposed to the independence and their collaborators are persistently confusing the people over war criminal trial, but the patriotic people have now become very much conscious about the nation's history and also about the distortion of the history.
"Remain alert. The evil elements are trying to mislead people
mischievously at shops, public buses, educational institutions or inside accelerators," she said.
The Prime Minister reminded that the vested quarters are out to divert the public mind by talking about power and gas crisis, prices of essentials, etc.
With AL presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury presiding, the discussion was also addressed by AL presidium members Sheikh Selim, Agriculture Minister Begum Motia Chowdhury and AL general secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam.
