Defence pleads for Azhar\\\'s acquittal

Thursday, 11 September 2014

A defence counsel pleaded Wednesday for acquittal of the allegedĀ  Al Badr commander ATM Azharul Islam from the war crimes offences as the prosecution totally 'failed' to prove beyond reasonable doubt the charges made against him, reports UNB.
With the detained accused in the dock, advocate A Sobhan Tarafder made the plea before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 while closing his defence case summing-up arguments, exhausting nine days.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim, however, allowed one hour to another defence counsel Barrister M Shishir Manir to submit his remaining arguments on law points on September 15 before rebuttal by the prosecution.
