Delay in college admission results triggers concerns
FE Report | Sunday, 28 June 2015
College admission-seekers and their guardians in the country were worried as the government could not publish the admission results even after two days of the schedule.
The first merit list for the college admission for the academic year 2015-16 was supposed to be published on Thursday night, but the government failed and rescheduled it for Friday.
The authorities now looked to publish the results today (Sunday).
The education board officials said the cause of delay in publication of the result was an unwanted technical glitch on the website.
"Regrettably, we cannot say anything right now as we don't know when it would be resolved," a senior official at the Dhaka Education Board told the FE on Saturday evening.
He, however, said a team of technical experts from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) had been working relentlessly in this regard.
Asked, whether they would be able to publish the admission results by today (Sunday), the senior official said they were not sure about this. "Actually, this issue is not in our hand now," he said seeking anonymity.
Meanwhile, board chairman Professor Abu Bakkar Siddique told an English daily that they were hopeful of publishing the results by Sunday (today).
"We will try our best to make public the result for the academic session 2015-2016 by tomorrow," Prof Siddique was quoted as saying.
A message posted on the website, www.xiclassadmission.gov.bd, said that the process to publish the results was underway and a new schedule of the results publication would be announced soon.
Adiba Awalad, a college admission seeker, said she was worried about admission. "I am concerned about such a technical glitch that affects publication of the admission results," Ms Awalad said.
Mostafa Kamal, a frustrated guardian of an admission aspirant, said he was also apprehending results forgery.
"I am confused, as some people are talking about a hacker group who might have hacked the admission site for irregularities," he noted.
For the last few years, college admission had been based on results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams.
Dhaka Board, in a statement said students in the first merit list would be able to get admission to colleges between June 27 and 30, without paying any late fee.
A second merit list will be published on July 2, based on the seats remaining in colleges after the first lot of admissions.
