Delayed luggage handover in airport an irritant: FM

FE REPORT | Monday, 4 July 2022

Mismanagement causes sufferings to the passengers when they wait for getting back luggage after their arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka, observed Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.
The minister, who returned from a Europe tour on Sunday morning, found a large number of passengers waiting for two hours to receive their luggage near the designated conveyor belt, a spokesperson of the ministry said.
When they complained about their sufferings, the minister directed the officials concerned of the HSIA to take necessary steps to solve the problem.
He also talked to State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali over phone.
The state minister also assured him that proper actions will be taken to hand over luggage to the passengers as soon as possible after their arrival.
It is very painful that after a long journey the passengers have to wait for such a long time for getting their luggage in the airport.
The foreign minister said during his visit to Europe Bangladeshi expatriates also made complaints to him about the delay in getting luggage and other problems they face at the airport when they return to Dhaka.
He mentioned that the Bangladesh missions abroad have taken steps to enhance the quality of the consular services for Bangladeshis.
Airport authorities should also take measures to provide better services to passengers, the minister opined.
