Delhi CM Kejriwal in stand off with cops
Monday, 20 January 2014
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal was in a stand-off with Delhi police on a busy road in India’s commercial city after he was prevented from staging a protest at the office of India’s home minister on Monday. A police officer stopped the Delhi Chief Minister (CM) at India Gate and blocked roads leading to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s office situated nearby. Kejriwal strongly protested against alleged police refusal to crack down on a drug and prostitution ring, police deny this. Kejriwal’s AAP, an anti-corruption platform founded by him last year, has been demanding more control over police. Kejriwal took over as the CM of Delhi earlier this month after his party won 28 of the 70 seats in recent elections on a pledge to fight corruption and clean up politics, according to an Indian TV channel.
