Delwar takes bail \\\'concealing facts\\\'

Thursday, 7 August 2014

Tuba owner Delwar Hossain, who failed to get bail thrice, got lucky fourth time because he allegedly concealed facts. Delwar got bail on July 24 on the explicit promise of paying off salary and allowances to his workers which had not been paid for three months because he was in prison. BGMEA representing the garment factory owners says if Delwar was on bail and able to oversee the running of his five factories, the workers would not have gone unpaid and the present crisis might well have been avoided. But labour leaders contend that Delwar has deliberately created the crisis of non-payment to create a situation where the court would have to give him bail. The government has said it will appeal against grant of bail to Delwar but has not yet been able to take a definite stand on the issue. But the labour groups want the government to take a firm stand on the issue. Detained in jail on criminal charges following the devastating fire that killed 112 workers at his Tazreen Fashions factory in 2012, Delwar stands accused of culpable homicide and causing death by negligence under sections 304 and 304 (A) of Bangladesh Penal Code, according to bdnews24.com.
