BNP Secretary General Khondaker Delwar Hossain Saturday said the talks between BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina would have positive impacts on both the parties, reports BSS.
"Exchange of pleasantries between the two leaders in a cordial environment at the Armed Forces Day function in Senakunja Friday is positive," he said while talking to journalists after a milad mahfil on the occasion of the 44th birthday of Tarique Rahman at Nayapaltan BNP central office.
"We did not hear what the two leaders discussed, but it was the people's expectation. Their discussions reflected the will of the people," the BNP secretary general said and added the nation wanted that the two leaders would sit together in a pleasant environment and hold discussions with open mind.
This kind of culture exists in all countries, he said and expressed the hope the talks between Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina would have positive impacts on their parties.
Demanding creation of a congenial atmosphere for elections in the country, Delwar said BNP wanted to take part in the polls. It was not afraid of elections, he added.
"We have trust and confidence in the people and voters. We formed the government three times taking the people's mandate," he added.
He said that a fair election could not be held without lifting the emergency and scrapping clause 91 (e) of the Representation of People's Order (RPO).
He said the government, the Election Commission and all concerned would have to work cordially to hold a free and fair election with the participation of all parties.
Replying to a question on seat-sharing among the components of the four-party alliance, the BNP leader said the parties would hold a meeting to finalise the nominations. Honest and efficient persons would be nominated for the elections, he added.
He alleged that the government was killing time by keeping their demands hanging. Indecision of the government was affecting poll preparations of BNP and the alliance, he added.
Organised by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal, the function was also attended by BNP Office Secretary Rizvi Ahmed, Muktijoddha Dal President Principal Sohrab Uddin, Jubo Dal leader Khairul Kabir Khokan and Mahila Dal leader Shirin Sultana.
