Demand for midterm election is not party decision: Delwar

Wednesday, 3 November 2010

BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain Tuesday said the demand for midterm parliamentary elections was not the party's decision, reports UNB.
After a joint meeting replying to newsmen, Delwar said it might be one's personal opinion as the party did not take any decision over the matter.
Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, BNP national standing committee member, the party's highest policy making body, recently at some rallies and discussions has demanded midterm elections for what he termed the government's failure in all sectors.
The day's joint meeting was held with leaders of Dhaka and its adjacent districts held at the BNP's Nayapaltan central office in preparation for observing November 7.
Delwar alleged that the government was not giving permission to use Paltan Maidan, as a large gathering would be at the venue.
He said it would be undemocratic if the government creates obstruction to their democratic rights.
BNP leaders RA Gani, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Prof Abdul Mannan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Amanullah Aman were present at the press briefing.
