FE Report
Students and teachers of a city school Wednesday disrupted traffic movement on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway for an hour by putting up road blocks demanding a foot-overbridge at Sayedabad.
Hundreds of students of Jatrabari Ideal School demonstrated in the area, commonly known as Sayedabad Bridge at 10:00am and chanted slogans blockading the busy road that connects east and southeastern parts of the country with the capital.
A teacher among the agitators said the government has sanctioned the construction of a foot-overbridge but the city authority's delay is causing concern to the people, especially the students, who cross the road on a daily basis.
"At least three people died while crossing the road under the wheels of motorised vehicles in the last
15 days," he said
"We want the Dhaka City Corporation to start the construction work of the bridge immediately," he added.
The roadblock caused sufferings to out going and in-coming passengers in the morning and forced many to get down from the vehicles and walk to their respective destinations.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after negotiations with the leaders of the agitators.
