Wednesday, 3 September 2008

Throwing a fresh action plan, BNP secretary general Khondoker Delwar Hossain Tuesday said the 4-party alliance would carry forward the movement for realising their demands no matter whether his party chairperson Khaleda Zia remains in or outside jail, reports UNB.brThe alliance will hold rallies in the capital, Dhaka, and elsewhere in the country on September 9 to press home these demands.brTheir demands include former PM Khaleda's unconditional release, Tarique's treatment abroad, lifting the state of emergency, parliamentary elections first, bringing down prices to acceptable levels and scrapping the Representation of People Order (Amendment) Ordinance.brAddressing a protest meeting of the alliance at the Engineers Institution against police action on the human-chain protest on August 27, Delwar urged the nationalist forces and the people to prepare for an effective movement for realising the demands.brReferring to the public plight caused by price spirals, the BNP leader said The people could not be suppressed by threats and guns but they are badly hit by the escalating prices of commodities.brDelwar noted that thus far the BNP and its allies had observed all programmes peacefully. But, he warned If the government wants to push us towards chaos by obstructing our future programme, the government will be held responsible for any eventuality.brHe alleged that false cases were filed against Khaleda Zia and the government could not yet prove any of the cases.brJamaat secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed cautioned that if the government resorted to dillydallying over the release of Khaleda Zia and general election in December, then the people would take up the appropriate programmes. He said The government will not be able to tackle that situation.brBJP chairman Andalib Rahman, secretary general Shamim Al Mamun, IOJ secretary general Abdul Latif Nezami and Khelafat Majlish secretary general Ahmed Abdul Qader also spoke, among others, at the protest meeting.
